South Africa became the first country in the world to put in place comprehensive regulation for hedge fund products in April 2015. These new regulations allowed for hedge funds to fall under the CISCA (Collective Investments Schemes Control Act) and be formally registered as collective investment schemes alongside traditional Regulation 28 funds – allowing for greater transparency, liquidity, and risk control measures than was required in the past.
