There is currently a pot of R47 billion in the South African economy in the form of unclaimed benefits – money owed to ordinary South Africans. This has created an interesting conundrum in South Africa. On the one hand, there is a huge pot of unclaimed benefits and on the other hand, citizens who desperately need an income. The solution seems simple. Find the beneficiaries and pay out the money. Unfortunately, this relationship is complicated.
