Why saving and investing are a much better bet

Saving, investing and gambling may all involve money, but they are very different things.

Saving means putting money aside in a safe place, like a bank account, for something you may need soon. This could be for emergencies, transport, school costs, or a future purchase. Your money usually grows slowly, but it is safer and easier to access.

Investing means using money to try to grow your wealth over time. This usually means putting your money into things like shares, unit trusts, or other investments. Investing is not about getting rich quickly. It is about being patient and giving your money time to grow. The value can go up and down, especially in the short term, but over time investing can help you build wealth and beat inflation.

Gambling is when you risk money on luck, hoping to win more money quickly. This could be through online betting, slot machines, or casino games. Gambling may feel exciting, but the odds are usually against you. In the long run, most people lose money.

This video shows why, in the long run, saving and investing are much smarter choices than betting your money.
